The Chris Langan Weekend board has notified me that the weekend which has traditionally been held in the coldest months in Toronto has now been shifted to a milder late spring date of April 28th to 30th.
This is obviously fantastic news to the participants of the awesome Toronto tionòl, who gather together in the name of Chris Langan, an inspirational teacher and friend to many. He helped dozens of people learn Irish music, pipes and whistle and indeed built many sets of Irish pipes for these students. He also arranged and composed music to suit their needs!
The Chris Langan Weekend, now in it’s 15th successful year, is very proud to announce that Mick O’Brien & Caoimhin Ó Raghallaigh will be performers/instructors at the upcoming event.
This is an early announcement considering the tionòl is seven months away, but considering that it normally would’ve taken place mid-January, it’s out of consideration to those who schedule their plans well in advance. More information will be published on the Chris Langan website at http://www.chrislangan.ca in the next couple of days and further details regarding performers/instructors and schedules will occur closer to the date.
Thanks Paul. I think that is a positive development. I think more performers and piping students are more likely to attend in April than the nasty season in January when one’s skin is dry from the cold outside and the heating indoors and when one’s reeds are cranky and hesitant to sing properly.
Thanks again Paul! What great news! I’ve missed the opportunity in the past to meet Mick and Caoiminh, and with the change of time is great for me as well, travelling will be a lot less difficult to deal with.
Daryl
P.S. How the Hughes chanter? Do you still have it?
aRRRGGGGGHHHHH why so far? Maybe I could somehow et up there..
I’m thinking they should move it to RI or something. I would LOVE to see Mick and Caoimhin at it. They have the loveliest sound. Ahhhhhh I should be sleeping…

Crap,
I had intended to go to that this year.
I had met Chris a good few times in the past and it was great to chat to him about old north county Dublin musicians, my grandfather included.
One of these days I’ll get up there to help celebrate a great man with ye.
Ah well, I’ve a great excuse. I’ll be in the Cayman Islands on my honeymoon!!!
Yep still have the chanter - still great I’ve got some RH drones that have a challenge factor with though, but nothing unfixable I hope. Personally, I’m really happy about the change in months - much more reasonable time to have a gathering, especially as it concerns the UPs. If I’ve heard of one professional piper who’s pipes gave up the battle with lack of humidity the I’ve heard it too many times, and I’ve heard it a number of times unfortunately. Mr. Graham is bang on with my thoughts too (cheers, btw!).
I will (barring unforseen financial barriers) be there with the proverbial bells on. Or at least my half-set. (thenk yew Joe K.) I’m looking forward to it and April is good. T.O.'s a nicer town when noone’s freezing their particulars off.
On a side note, my sister, in Ottowa, has decided she needs to learn UPs as well. (!?!?!) Now she has my Joe Kennedy practice chanter and neither bag nor bellows as I’ve lent those out to another hopeful foo- uh player. Anyone here know any UPers in Ottowa? Or close? Melanie’s interested in starting like yesterday. An instructor in the area would be keen as well. Family fun, whoo hoo.
You guys are in for a real treat. They were the featured artists at our SoCal Tionol last year- Really Top notch. Have them play Sport/Rolling Wave together-WOW
I never thought as RI and Toronto as being far apart. Geez…it’s just a bit under 1.5 h by flight from Nashville…and the flights are less expensive than the gas to drive there and back. Aeroplanes have decreased the size of the planet.
I’ll be in the Cayman Islands on my honeymoon!!!
Congratulations! Stay away from the Caymans (crocodiles)…and check out the new Porsche Cayman…vroom vroom.
Right, so, given that CLW will take place in April, any Toronto area pipers feel like an informal gathering in January so that we can practice a few tunes in order to be worthy of hearing music from the likes of O’Brien and O’Reilly come April? It’ll be a long cold winter waiting till April.
I’m considering a billetting opportunity, so if anyone needs a place to sleep lemme know. I’m definitely not downtown - not even remotely close to the venues, but on the CLW I’m there 80% of the weekend anyway.
