Hi,
Has anyone registered for the CL Weekend yet? I sent an email to the address on the website, but so far no reply, and its been a week. Does anyone know if the people that organize it are on these boards? If so, maybe I could PM them. Thanks in advance!
-Dylan
Yes, it’s still on as far as I know. Jimmy O’Brien-Moran is rumoured to be the guest piper.
The people who are organizing it are all volunteers. It’s a big job, so you have to give them some leeway.
There are at least two of the organizers on this forum: Paul Reid and Virgil Colby (vcolby).

Hey Gang - to clarify, I’m NOT an organizer of the weekend (and Virgil isn’t either), but I do keep the website up to date. Just yesterday I was given the go-ahead to post the schedule, so that will be going up today as well as some other minor homepage changes!! YAY!
As far as registration goes, the people on the committee should be getting those emails - I will see what I can do to promote the registration communication ![]()
It’s going to be a GREAT (!!!) weekend. JOBM, Louise Mulcahy, Patrick Ourceau, Hammy Hamilton, Sean McComiskey, and of course, the fantastic Canadian talent: Karen Light, Pat O’Gorman, David Papazian, Kim Vincent, Virgil Colby and many others.
The gala concert this year is at the JCC Al Green theatre - this is a marvelous venue! And while I’m not a big fan of the Tranzac club, it does have it’s charms, I suppose. Like having international talent playing in the upstairs bathroom, and quite possibly the worst taste in paint colours ever. Aside from my opinion of the Tranzac Club, this weekend promises to be one of the best.
I’ll re-post when all the changes have been made.
ATB,
JOBM! Flat pitch maestro! Fabulous.
The schedule is now on the site:

Registration form will be up tomorrow.
Cheers!
Hey gang,
the registration form is now on the site - thanks to my buddy Virgil, the magic of Excel has been made available to allow the user to specifically make a class (and classy) choice. Wow. What will they think of next? Sliced peanut butter?
A little bird is telling me that registering for the weekend is a good idea to ensure you have a space in the class you want.
Cheers!
Just a suggestion - perhaps an on-line web-form registration would make things smoother. That way you’d get the information in the format you want from a trusted source (your server).

Paul,
Would it be possible to have Debbie’s class on Chris Langan piping ornaments scheduled after the 1:00 to 2:30 slot (ie in the 3:00 to 4:30 slot.)? I suspect a lot of people who would like to attend Debbie’s class are torn between it and LM’s and JOBM’s classes in the 1:00 to 2:30 slot. You’ve likely considered this already, just wondering. For those of us without regulators, there’s no piping class at all in the 3:00 to 4:30 slot.
bump!
Shouldn’t that be “Bewmp”?

Well, wasn’t the weather amazing? It is mirroring the event this year – lots of fun. Today, Sunday, has been the best day of the weekend, in my opinion. This morning’s lecture by David Papazian, Dan McGee and Debbie Quigley about Chris Langan was especially touching. The tune they played at the end simply brought tears onto my face. Absolutely beautiful, and from the little I know about Chris, he wouldn’t have been disappointed, although embarrassed at the admonishment.
There are photos of the weekend up on the site for all to see - go to the website ![]()

I may still go to the session this evening - it’s on now but Dora’s is tiny and I’ll wait until it empties out a bit.
Thanks Paul, great pictures!
There’s nothing more inspiring to keep practising than to get a rare opportunity like taking a class with a piper of Jimmy O’Brien-Moran’s calibre. He had each person play a tune, taking notes as each played. This took up most of the class time. Then in an explosion of information, he went around the group through each person’s performance and gave literally a ton of piping instruction. I wish I’d had a video camera to capture it all, there was so much good instruction, all delivered in about twenty minutes.
You’d be hard pressed to go wrong if you had that level of instruction available on a regular basis. It was all over too soon for me.

Wow, you work fast Mr. Reid. Great job. Great weekend.
Wow, what a great weekend! My first tionol, and it was tons of fun. Fantastic pictures by the way Mr. Reid.
-Dylan
Thanks guys. All these “Mr.”'s are reminding me of my dad!
Great to see you at the weekend Dylan - do you feel as though you learned enough?
Jimmy was great wasn’t he? Just enough instruction to get you thinking about piping details all over again! sigh
This was my second opportunity to take a class with Louise Mulcahy. It’s no stretch to think she must be a brilliant teacher at the primary school she works at, since it seems so easy to take her instruction. That’s not supposed to sound as though at 41 years old I feel like I’m in grade 2. ![]()
When JOBM did the Piper’s Chair I missed the first bit of his spiel. Did anyone get the name of the Mayo piper living in NYC that recorded The Budgie on the Settle, among other things? The other clues were that he was the one of the omissions from O’Neill’s Irish Minstrels and Musicians, made bits and pieces of pipes and reeds for others, James Morrison used to stay with him, Patsy Touhey used to visit frequently, died in the 30s. Ring any bells?
Thx,
djm
Mike Carney, perhaps?

DJM,
My recollection is that the piper JOBM mentioned was Michael Carney. So Jumper is correct.
