A while back (many years now) I came accross some sheetmusic for the tracks on Micho Russell’s CD Ireland’s Whistling Ambassador at the following website: http://www.pennywhistle.com/soundtransc.html#
If you call up the print versions, there is a note at the bottom indicating that Bill Ochs was compiling a collection of Micho’s music to be published in 2002.
I have never seen this in print. Does anyone know if this has ever been published?
Bill informs me that he has been called away from that project to other things, but plans to eventually get back to it. There is, however, no specific timetable for that. A fine treatment of a few of Micho’s tunes can be found here:
Thanks to C & F stalwart Peter Leban and the host of the site to which that is the link. If you go to the home page of the site, there are links to some really wonderful tunes by Micho and others.
Respect where its due, this link was posted on C & F some time ago. I’m just refreshing the collective memory.
I can add t othat that another colelction of Micho’s music, collected and notated by Breandan Breathnach resides in the Irish Traditional Music Archive in Dublin. Jackie Small worked on organising this collection and he told me at the time that it would be virtually ready to publish if anyone would take on the job. Nobody has.
A good number of Micho’s tunes can be found in Breandan’s collection Ceol Rincce na hEirreann vols 1 and 2
and there are a number of small collections Micho used to sell himself, copies can still be had for example in the Traditional Music shop in Doolin.
