anyone willing to make a “bootleg” recording of this?

Tut Tut !
I’ll tell Matt and he’ll smack you.

Has-beens.

now, now…all meant in complete innocence!

I meant Molloy, Carty and McGlynn. Not Migoya and AndrewK.

ah good!
thanks for clearing that up!
thought I was headed for the “discard” pile again.

I am certainly heading for the discard pile.
Matt says John Carty is a splendid fiddler.
I shall certainly use your opinion to argue the fees of Matt & John down if I’m still around and functioning well enough to get the festival going next year.

I’ve heard he is indeed a splendid fiddler, and must be if he’s comperable with Matt. Tommy Peoples speaks highly of Carty, too, on his last visit this way (and due to return later this week).

Someone said they had just heard Carty playing on the east coast (of the US) recently. I didn’t know he was touring (if this is indeed the same fellow), but apparently he is no longer convalescing, which is indeed great news.

And there is no one better than McGlynn at accompanying Molloy. Now, I wonder if they’ll be in Eb again!?

Marvelous key. Everything seems so alive!

John Carty was touring on the East coast recently. Why was he convalescing?

When I was at the Feakle Festival in August 2003, Matt Molloy and John Carty did an absolutely brilliant set together in one of the evening concerts. Just flute and fiddle IIRC, no accompaniment. Rumor then was that they would be doing a recording together, but that seems not to have happened yet. Let’s hope that this latest bout of concertizing is a step in that direction!

Rumor had been about a year ago (I think) that Matt and John had cancelled some gigs/appearances because John had been seriously ill. I don’t recall whether it was a serious thing or not, but at least that’s what I had been told.
Of course, like a true journalist, I had not contacted any of the involved parties to see if this was, in fact, true.
But only mention it now with the urgency that if it was true, good to hear that John’s is doing better.
If it is not true, then good to know he’s been fine all along!

Well, he sure sounded – and looked – pretty lively in St. Louis Saturday night.

You know, I think somehow Maureen would know the full story here .

BTW, Maureen, I’d like to talk to John Carty about flute recordings for “Wooden Flute Obsession vol. 3”. It would be wonderful if you could straighten me out with a proper phone # - the one I had was from 1997 with the old county codes. James Carty was interested, but said I’d have to talk to John about recordings. In fact, I’d love to have tracks from John, John Sr. and James. Matt Molloy was on vol. 1, and his son Peter on vol. 2.

It was a nice tribute to WFO for John Wynne to use the idea for the Flute Players of Roscommon CD, and he has suggested that I should consider doing a county-by-county survey of flute players to cover other areas in Ireland. However, right now, vol.3 for WFO is on the table, and strives for a very wide variety of influences. There will be a number of tracks from Clare & Belfast players this time, just as there were a number of Sligo players recorded for WFO2.

All the best,

Kevin Krell

Well i figure “has-beens” beats the heck out of “never-been”
