Hi there. I’m a 16 year old junior in high school, and as a project for art, I’ve decided to make an irish tin whistle. Problem is, I’m almost clueless how to go about doing it 
. Could anyone give me some names of books or websites that might help me make a simple, working tin whistle?

I hope that you enjoy your project. Here’s one for a copper whistle: http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Lofts/6611/makewhis.htm . You can use PVC pretty easily as well. If you want to look at a book, do a search for Bart Hopkins - Musical Instrument Design. He has a section on wood winds where he addresses whistles and flutes.

This site has an interactive calculator to figure the size and placement of the holes for various keys.

To make a simple template for drilling the holes, use a word processing program and set the tabs at the distances from the end of the tube from the calculator. Type a capital X at the tabs. Print it and tape it to the tube. Then drill where X marks the spot.
