Making your own fipple?

I’m thinking of taking on a new project but the fipple seems like the most challenging part. Any suggestions or plans? I have the requisite tools…vise, files, drills, etc.

Thanks…JM

I have been making whistles out of copper for a couple of years and yes,the fiple is the most challenging bit but actually not that complicated.

send me a message on my e-mail address and I will give you the benefit of my limited experience.

Why don’t you post what you know. Others, including me, are interested.

Here are a few links to Whistle/Recorder making etc. I suggest Kim Fulton-Benett’s site first.

Here is a “Main” site with detailed diagrams for organ pipe voicings. Click on “illustrations” in the left frame.

Here are 3 good examples from the “organ stops” site.

(this one simulates flute tone and can be adapted to flute plans)

Radio Shack sells a nibbling tool that can be used on brass tubing for cutting fipples - good for making High-D whistles. I’ll have a mini manual put together on this in a few weeks.
