M&E wood flute-opinions please

Okay…I have been going back and forth between the Seery poly, Hamilton wood, and now M&E poly and M&E wood. What is the opinion of the M&E wood flute? the price is very good I’d say, and the picture looks great.

Opinions???

I’ve owned the M&E Rudall style polymer and it was a great flute for the bucks… Can’t give a review of the wood…

It’s probably as good as the polymer version, since it’s manufactured with the same process and specs. Don’t be shy of asking Michael, he’s a great guy. He may stir you towards polymer, since he believes it’s a better option. He probably would let you buy the wooden flute and send it back if you don’t like it, within a reasonable period. Ask him.

I don’t much care for M&E’s myself. Every one I’ve played has been absurdly out of tune with itself, too heavy, and ugly. Maybe more recent M&E’s are better. But when Patrick Olwell’s basic keyless flute goes for around the same price, why waste your time?

Other than the weight, which was heavier than my wood flutes, I found my M&E Rudall model to play nicely in tune, was very well constructed, and good looking (mine had the metal bands)… Can’t speak for others, but that one was a very nice instrument…
