I also have a low-d laughing whistle available. It’s a wonderful thing…really sweet and very quiet and takes very little air.
It would be great for one of you apartment-dwellers or someone who wanted to try a low-d but didn’t want to shell out a lot of dough. Shoot me an imail if interested.
Geeze dude, I’m going to have to start charging you a consultation fee
Buy yourself a Grinter (Wood), and an Overton - between those two and the Copeland, you’re not going to find anything better, and each of those are different from one another. I’d also suggest trying an O’Riordan or Swayne, but you’re not going to find either of those so…
I only have my Copeland low D (good start yes?) and want to try some more for variation. I´m primarly thinking on a big hole Overton.
Later on I will add Low G and A as well, and when I have found some LowD,G and A, I will add up with flats of them all because I often use my guitars tuned a half step down.
Oh how I long for my Abell and rose soprano D to arrive, nothing wrong with my Copeland Sterling D but I believe that for high whistles the material should be wood for me.

I think Loren summed it up best, but I felt like posting. Bond to your Copeland; I find it reverberatingly hot and yet easy to play. The Overton, which is very good, I don’t like quite as much. The O’Riordan, which I also love, is probably impossible to get anymore. Now I do have a Grinter Low F in red lancewood which is fantastic and if the Low D is anything like it, that would be a wonderful Low D. I also have Grinters in high D and Bflat (also lancewood)and they are consistently wonderful. However, the metals are pretty much maintenance-free and durable. I also have an anodized Kerry Low D which is surprisingly good and an old Howard Low D that has good sound but is a bit tricky with regard to covering the big holes.
Bottom line: If you’ve already got a Copeland Low D, bond, bond, bond…
Hey I got my very own “Geeze Dude” reply from Loren. Now I feel like a full-fledged whistle board guy!
As to the consulting fee, tell you what Loren if you ever have a veterinary question shoot me an email.
It’s nice to have folks with your depth of experience on the board. Even if you are a little cranky sometimes.
Is there any difference between the Overtons and the Kerry Pros?
Are you in the market for an Overton, Doc? I just picked one up last week, and it sounds great, but I have bonded with the Burke I picked up in a trade a while back (can’t remember where…), so I know I’ll never spend much time with it.

Nah, you’re not full fledged until we’ve really gotten into it about something. Don’t worry, bound to happen eventually…what with me being so cranky and all

Actually, I have one now and I’ll write you off-board about it shortly. My poor German Shepherd isn’t feeling well

Sometimes? Where have you been? I’m cranky MOST of the time. Hmph.

Yes.
By the way, I warn you now: Having a great Low D or three will eventually convince you that you have to have a nice flute. Problem is the really good flutes aren’t so easy to come by, so enjoy the almost instant gratification while you can, one day the real torture will begin…
