the recent threads on snobbery and tinnitus somehow suddenly reminded me of this illustrious show (especially the punk rock orchestra)…not for the faint of heart (or eardrums)…and yes, only in San Francisco…
Institute For Unpopular Culture (www.ifuc.org) and
The San Francisco Renegades Drum and Bugle Corps is
pleased to announce this year’s Loud Music Symposium
5 at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco on April 25th
at 3:00 p.m. The Loud Music Symposium 5 is a festival
celebrating the variety of music and visual arts
native to the San Francisco Bay area. This
spectacular celebration of loud music and performance
artistry will tantalize the eardrums of unsuspecting
listeners with an amazing showcase of diverse artists.
Featured performers include the San Francisco
Renegades Drum & Bugle Corps, (www.renegades.org)
currently the 6th ranked senior drum and bugle corps
in the world. The Renegades will perform excerpts from
their production including Bizet’s Death Theme, music
from “The Matrix,” a rendition of Buddy Rich’s Channel
One Suite and Goodbye Blue Sky by Pink Floyd. Also
making a thundering appearance is the Punk Rock
Orchestra, (www.punkrockorchestra.com) a 40+ piece
orchestra that performs punk rock music on classical
instruments, whose music is described by the The San
Francisco Bay Guardian as “…low brow music on high
brow instruments,” and Krenshaw, the Bay Area’s
premier metal band.
