Anyone going to the Lunasa show tonight?
How was the show last night? I saw Lunasa in March, and they were outstanding.

It was especially impressive when Kevin Crawford played two whistles at the same time. However, I did note that his fingers did not seem to move much on either whistle.

Ah, who am I kidding about keeping comments to myself… How many sets of strummy guitar, annoying bass, lame harmonies, and playing that has no room for anything but speed can you take without getting bored? For me it was 1. But hey, I got to fulfill part of a requirement for my music course so no worries.
I tried to give them a chance again but it just doesn’t work for me.
I have to admit that it was the Irish “supergroup” style that kept me from getting into Irish music for quite a while. I had some interest, but whenever I borrowed a CD or whatever, it was of this “supergroup” style, and it just left me cold. Now that I’ve found more “traditional” recordings and heard good live stuff, my interest has gone way up. I was almost tempted to see Lunasa, but another listen to the clips on their website disencouraged me. It’s like groups like this want to incorporate the excesses of progressive rock and the sappiness of '70s pop-folk and the “radio-friendly” production of '80s pop. Why? Maybe because those are the sounds they grew up with?
I admit I do like some of what they do. If the concert was free and in my backyard, I’d wander out to hear a tune or two.
