I have a Copeland flute that needs to have the tenons re-corked and also needs a new stopper. Does anyone have someone to recommend, preferably in the eastern U.S.? Terry McGee has done some great restoration work for me in the past, but I hate to ship the flute all the way to Oz for such a small job. I tried contacting Jim Rementer of Copeland Woodwinds already, but have not received a reply.
This is something you can easily accomplish on your own. Or just let your local band repairperson take care of it. Definitely not a specialized repair. Shouldn’t cost much more than $10.
Check the bottom of the page linked below for a list of people (including several in the eastern US) who do flute repair. You could also try Ralph Sweet in Connecticut.
I recently bought an old German flute that needed a full refurbishing: tenons, key-pads, etc. I asked Dave Migoya and he said a local music shop could do it. In those regards it’s not too different from clarinet repair. The local guy did a stellar job.
Cheers,
Aaron
I’m suprised that you did not get a reply from Jim or Michael at Copeland Woodwinds. They did move the shop to New Jersey last Dec. and I notice the web site has not been updated Dec. 28.
I hope all is well , moves can be traumatic.
