Looks like a great set, if only I weren’t saving up for another awesome set.

Great set, terrible bag cover. Does it affect the sound??

Re:- PJ terrible bag cover
sorry it,s the cover the pipes came with,I,ve always preferred a racy
leopardskin job myself!

This gives me an idea for a range of bag covers. We could have leopard skin for the men, pink fluffy ones for the lady pipers, and bag covers with Winnie the Pooh for the kiddies!!!

But apart from the bag, it’s a great looking set. Good luck with the sale.

During the early 80s Eugene’s then partner Jody had a loom set up in the workshop and hand woven ‘traditional’ tweed bag covers were a special option.

What happened to the Lambe chanter?

Got damaged poking the fire

Patrick, you are on a roll today.

:stuck_out_tongue: Justine

You shouldn’t be poking your stick into a fire..

I may have mentioned this before but Eugene’s workshop is one of nicest pipemaker’s workshops in the world. It’s the old schoolhouse in Fanore with a gorgeous view of the coast (it’s maybe 50 yards inland) and a world-class view all around.

What the hell is it? A feckin’ Tardis?

A couple of months ago, a whistle player here in Portland had me check out this Lambe full set that someone had bought for her in Ireland in the late 70s…The bag cover was nearly identical to the one in the picture on eBay (though perhaps a slightly more violent shade of vomit green)…Great lookin’ pipes though…

Eugene sold the school soem eight or nine years ago and has been in Kinvarra since.

Really? I’d heard he was off chasing the ultimate Galway hooker …

Then I should have said ‘had’. Most pipemakers locate equipment in basements and garages but that location was totally different.

It was lovely, I once walked out there from Lisdoonvarna to pick up a bass regulator (the one that never worked). Fanore is getting a bit built up now but it’s a long way from anywhere, especially during the winter.

I know that set. The owner decided to give the pipes a shot about 6 years ago, after the set had been mostly gathering dust all this time, we made reeds and General Maintenanced them, then her back went out. Recently Sporting helped her out again, and last month she slipped on the ice and broke her wrist - on the only icy day of the winter! Sign from God perhaps.

The Ebay photos are quite dull, the bag cover gives off quite a Rasta sort of vibe, mon.

3 days to go and this set is at US$2,333 and the reserve is not yet reached. I’m very surprised. It’s probably worth twice or three times that. The last hours of the auction should be interesting.

Thank you PJ,you are obviously an astute and incisive person ,wise beyond your years!
