L & M Contact info (US)

I KNOW I just saw this in a thread the other day but just can’t seem to pull it up with search.

I’m looking to order an L & M bag (uilleann model). Who sells them in the US?

Thanks.

-Joey

I purchased a spare from Seth Gallagher.

L&M only sells wholesale, so you’ll have to purchase through a pipemaker or GHB outfitter.

So Seth has 'em. I’ll shoot him an email. Any other places that distribute them?

DJM, I’ve been away for awhile. Last I remember you had a hurling cat as your avatar. Now the bird… Maybe you’re not so under-medicated anymore?

Last time I checked in the US only some pipemakers distributed them. There was someone in Canada who would do custom orders through L&M, though. Just do a search for L&M bags on the net if you don’t want to buy from a pipemaker.

L&M has a HUGE backlog right now. I’m just placing an order with them for my own supply. If there is an interest or need I could consider making a larger purchase for those who might need a bag. Any thoughts?

My L & M bag was leaking the whole length of the seam, so I replaced it with a bag from Michael McHarg (http://www.vermontel.com/~weepiper/)
He has 2 weights of leather available ; they’re riveted, not stitched. He had it ready for pickup in about 3 days.
Lovely.

The L & M bag was only 8 years old.

This is just a small amount of time, agreed, but you have put some high quality miles on it… of that I have little doubt.

My bag is five and as air tight as the day it was made. I do know that L&M has several different styles of uilleann bags available - at least two anyway. One is something of a generic uilleann bag shape, and the other is a style Seth G. ordered custom for his sets. I’m sure there isn’t much difference, but it may be different enough that one would want to do a little homework before ordering a “uilleann” bag. Just a (hopefully) helpful heads-up.

Reedbiter,

I’d throw in an order with you. However, the L & M website lists a few makers that they’ve designed compatible bag templates for. I don’t see Kirk Lynch listed. I’m no pipemaker, so I wonder if this would be a problem with my Lynch chanter.

Any thoughts?

FWIW, my L&M bag’s (from Seth Gallagher) socket thingie is rather big for a Lynch chanter to plug into. When I was trying out a fellow sessioner’s Lynch chanter we had to wrap a napkin around it so it wouldn’t fall out of my bag socket.

That socket thingie is called a “stock”. And they will all be a little different from one maker to another.

Oh yeah. Duh. I knew that. It was really late when I posted that, and I get stupid when it’s around five in the morning and I still haven’t gone to bed. Sorry.
