Does anyone happen to have the whistle sheet music for An Innis Aigh, or know where I could find it??
Thanks!

An Innis Aigh
Seinn an duan seo do’n Innis Aigh,
An innis uaine a’s gile tràigh;
Bidh sian air uairean ag cath gu cruaidh ris
Ach ‘s e mo luaidh a bhith ann a’ tàmh.
Càit’ an tràith’ an tig samhradh ciùin?
Càit’ an tràith’ an tig blàth air craobh?
Càit’ as bòidhche ‘s an seinn an smeòrach
Air bhàrr nan ògan ‘san Innis Aigh?
Rogh’ na h-eunlaith e thar gach àit’,
Tha gach sion ann gu’m miann a ghnàth;
Air teachd do’n t-samhradh ‘s e leotha ‘s annsa
Nuair thig an t-àm a bhith ris an àl.
Tiugainn leam-sa chun na tràigh’,
‘S an fheasgar chiùin-ghil aig àm an làin,
‘S chì thu ‘m bòidhchead, ‘s an liuthad seòrsa
De dh’eòin tha còmhnuidh an Innis Aigh.
A’ ghrian ag éirigh ‘s a’ mhaduinn chiar,
A’ dearrsadh éibhneis ‘n a ceum do’n Iar,
Le gathan blàthmhor ‘s le boillsgeadh àghmhor
Bidh a ciad fàilt’ air an Innis Aigh.
An t-iasg as fiachaile, dlùth d’an tràigh,
Is ann m’a chrìochan is miann leis tàmh,
Bidh gillean iasgaidh le dorgh ‘s lìontan
Moch, moch ‘g a iarraidh mu Innis Aigh.
‘S ged théid mi cuairt chun an taoibh ud thall,
‘S mi ‘n dùil air uairibh gum fan mi ann,
Tha tàladh uaigneach, le teas nach fuaraich
‘G a m’tharruing buan do’n Innis Aigh.
O, ‘s gearr an ùine gu’n teirig là,
Thig an oidhche ‘s gun iarr mi tàmh,
Mo chadal buan-sa, bidh e cho suaimhneach,
Ma bhios mo chluasag ‘s an Innis Aigh.
Found the words no trouble, the sheetmusic is indded being elusive. This seems to be a Scottish song, maybe some scottish sites will be profitable?
I’ll not let this one beat me!
Martin
Thanks Martin! I actually have the lyrics for the song, but I haven’t been successful in finding sheet music
Maybe I’m not looking in the right place!!!
Heather
Hi Heather,
I’ve been looking for about 20 minutes, it’s being very elusive. Loads of recordings of it, but no sheetmusic.
I think being in Scottish Gaelic, it’s not going to be on any Irish Trad Music sites. Even specialist sheetmusic sites don’t have it.
However, if the Chieftains recorded it, it may yet turn up.
I suggets you post the query on the ITM board too, there are many knowledgeable players there who might have transcribed it themselves.
Best of luck!

Yeah, I did the rounds on Google and a few other places as well. I found the recordings (Mostly the Chieftains, although there were a few by the Rankin family), but I couldn’t find the sheet music for it for anything.

Thanks guys! I have the Rankin Family and Chieftains recording, so I might just have to break down and transcribe it myself…so much work, so little time!! ![]()
Thanks though!
Take care!
Heather
Just listened to the Rankin/Chieftan Recording and would love to have the sheet music as well. Has anyone seen it anywhere?
Happy toons,
Paulsdad
Hello, Helen 21.
The Scots Gaelic song “An Innis Aigh” isn’t Scottish. It was written in Cape Breton, Canada, by a lighthouse keeper of Scottish descent.
You can download a pdf of the sheet music from
Www.beatoninstitutemusic.ca
I just did!
Enjoy! Jaya.
