John Skelton's Flute Tutor Advise

Hi all. Has anybody purchased John’s flute tutor called “A few tunes” or the 2nd volume called “A few more tunes”. (I’m sure he was up all night trying to come up with these book names)

Here’s the link: http://celticgrooves.homestead.com/CG_Book_Skelton.html

I have taken John’s flute workshop in years past at the St. Louis Tionol and learned a lot. Wandering if it’s worth while to buy his books. Looking to try to learn more tunes by ear with the ability to cheat with the sheet music on some of the elusive notes.

Worth the investment?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Caaaaaaatttttt!!!

Clay wants to know about John’s books.

John has recorded 2 learning CD’s; “A Few Tunes” and “A Few More Tunes”. The books contain sheet music for the tunes on the CD’s, but are not a tutorial as such. The CD’s are excellent - good tunes and nice flute-friendly settings, though often a little different from what you might hear at a session. The tempo is relaxed enough that you may well be able to learn the tunes by ear, but if you need a little more help get the books as well. I don’t think that the books would be of much value without the CD’s.

Edited later: I looked at the Celtic Grooves web site, and it looks like you can only get them as a package. Still highly recommended.

I think it’s fun playing along with his relaxed, moderately paced tunes

Yup…

If that’s your goal I can’t think of a better product. Very happy with mine.

Great flute tunes, lovely settings, sensible pacing, lovely clean and straightforward playing … yes, I think they’re terrific, and the tune notes are informative and pretty funny, too. I think they’re totally worth it.

You can also get one or both directly from The Man Himself; PM me if you’d like his email.
