Only ever available on cassette, as far as I know, but you’ll be lucky to find it, and the last of the tapes was sold at Hammy’sfirst flute gathering a few years back. Some tracks are available on compilation CDs such as the “Farewell To Ireland” box set of 4, and also “The Wheels Of The World”. I haven’t checked, but a few of these might be available on iTunes. I think a few tracks may be freely available - and legally - on the internet.
I’ll send a pm tomorrow.

i’d be interested in those too…

The “Wheels” recordings are on iTunes, but there are only 2 tracks, one solo and one duet with James Morrison, but there’s a start for you.

archive.org has a few as well.

look at the Sticky Thread

I have an album by John McKenna on mp3 with 18 tracks. Does anyone have anything against me posting the whole bunch here? I don’t think it is any copyright on it now…

Sigmund

That’s the same number of tracks as on “The Original Recordings” cassette that’s been out of print for years. I’d sure love to hear it.

Best wishes.

I hope they don’t send me to jail for this :stuck_out_tongue:

requires an account with them.

not if you can wait 2-3min… there is a clock counting down. when it has finished, you can download..

Thought so. Thanks. Wasn’t sure.

For those who have Grey Larsen’s “Irish Flute and Tin Whistle” book, there is a detailed transcription there of the tune: “The Corry Boys” from the McKenna album

Not when I try. Wait for the entire page to load, and then click the greenish ‘download’ button, bottom centre.

Thanks Sigmund. That’s great of you to post.

Much Appreciated,

Steve

 Great recording, thanks for sharing!

For the benefit of anyone looking for John McKenna recordings who is brought here by search engine. It has been pointed out in this discussion https://forums.chiffandfipple.com/t/looking-for-liner-notes-to-fluters-of-old-erin-compilation/83363/1 that you can listen to all the tracks from the cassette referred to above at the Comhaltais archive (http://comhaltasarchive.ie).

just found this:

“EMG Gramophone. John McKenna. Irish Flute. 78rpm.”
=> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObyUfUb-p3k

just wondering if the tracks are still there. Loaded the page and waited for 10 min but nothing seems to be happening.
Thanks.

at the risk of repetition…they’re on the CCE Archive

If the above doesn’t work, just go to the archive and type John McKenna in the search box…or anything else takes you’re fancy. You can do that as a guest without creating an account.

PS. If you have an account and then forget your password (like me) there appears to be no way to retrieve it from the website
