Joe Strummer R.I.P.

Joe Strummer,ex leading light of U.k. punk band The Clash died yesterday, aged 50.I remember seeing them on their first U.K. tour in 1977 (now THAT dates me!).Somewhat nebulous Irish music connection?-He took over from Shane MacGowan in The Pogues for awhile, following Shane’s sacking for being ever so slightly ‘out of it’(now THERE’S AN UNDERSTATEMENT!)R.I.P. Joe.

Did you stand by Me, No way”
Hi Kevin,
Have you ever heard Dwight Yoakam’s cover of “Train in Vain”

Cheers’ Mac

Can’t say that i’ve heard that one Richard.I must admit to an ignorance of 'Country/New Country or whatever you want to call it,but as i’ve said before,it’s ALL music.I must admit that i do own a collection of Hank Williams,I figured that if you wanted to understand a music, then it was best to get in at the ‘beginning’(of 'modern country,i mean),mind you, being a fan of Kinky Friedman’s very funny novels inspired me to have a listen to Hank.By the way i love the way that Kinky refers to Garth Brooks as the ‘ANTI-HANK’!

Hi Kevin,
I’d agree regards GB, I’ve got a few of Hank myself and also Merle, I like Merle but he must be on commison with the Brewing/Distilling industry, real depressing stuff, LOL.

Mac.

So young. RIP.

Kevin,
I thought that liking the Clash AND Kinky Friedman was a little out there until I noticed that my vinyl version of “London Calling” was holding up “They Don’t Make Jews Like Jesus Anymore”, by Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys. I saw Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros a while back in NYC. He will be missed (I also saw Kinky and his band in NYC before a lot of this forum’s members were born). There was a rumour that the Clash were going to reunite next month for a one-off gig at their investiture into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in New York. I was particularly looking forward to that (sigh).

No doubt, RIP Joe Strummer…

There’s been a lot of the old punks dying off lately. Really sad. I saw Joe and the Mascalaros at last year’s Cambridge folkie and they were in top form. I was also looking forward to the Clash one-off at their induction into the R&R HoF. Seems a lot like how things went with the Ramones.

This is sad news, I was lucky enough to see the Clash twice in their early days. Joe’s loss will be a sad blow to many who enjoyed his work.

RIP, Adrian
