One of the foremost DJs John Peel died today in Peru of a heart attact.He was responsible for many of the worlds star acts ever getting heard.He worked for BBC Radio 1 since 1967 and always remained his own man.
I,for one will miss his saturday morning show on BBC Radio 4.
What a month,I lost my ex-wife to cancer two weeks ago,my mate Dave Williams(best pipe maker in the world)last week in a tragic car crash and now my fav DJ John Peel.What next?

Never heard his radio show, but any CD saying “Peel Sessions” on it was highly coveted here in NY in the 80’s- early 90’s. One by The Smiths comes to mind.

John will be greatly missed.I listened to his ‘Home truths’ programme on saturday morning,only to find that David Stafford was sitting in for him,as “John had gone to Peru-no it’s not a euphenism for something else-he REALLY has gone to Peru!”
I used to listen to John’s Radio one show in the mid 70’s,when I was still at school,and remember him championing ‘Punk Rock’ in 1976,though he was in his mid-late 30’s by then.
I understand that John had been working on his autobiography prior to his untimely demise.
That’s very sad. John Peel’s influence goes right back to the 60s if I’m not mistaken and his taste has helped shaped a lot of the better features of modern popular music.
I’ll miss him too.
Yes,sad indeed. John did alot for music, it never seemed to matter to him what came along if it was freash he was into it.RIP
