John Martyn - R.I.P.

Just in from work to find the tragic news of John Martyns passing on the BBC.

One of the true greats of our times without a doubt.

A masterful singer / songwriter and an innovative guitarist.
I saw him live a few times and his storytelling between songs was as wonderful as the music.

Peter Laban has posted a link to “May you never” on the Youtube thread so I’ll not duplicate it here.

Truly a great loss to folk music.

He will never be forgotten.

Damn shame. The man did seem to give his body some abuse though. Fine music, all the same.

This is very sad news although not entirely unexpected. As Dubh says, he was great to see live. In the early 70s he made a series of very fine albums. ‘May You Never’ remains my favourite song of his.

Here’s a few links concerning the Life and Times of the great man.

I am still a bit dazed by the news, he was one of those guys I thought would live forever..at least his music will.

Yes, but you seem to forget that through his music, he does kind of live forever. It keeps just that little bit of him here for all of us to enjoy, despite his not truly being with us anymore.
