I’m not sure if anyone has already posted about this topic, if so I apologize. I don’t get much time to log on to this message board as much as I used to. I was wondering if anyone knows what became of Joe Shannon’s Taylor set after he passed away? Any idea who owns it?
When I was about 13, someone loaned me an LP of Irish music from Chicago and Joe’s piping was featured on a number of tracks. It was the first I had ever heard of the uilleann pipes and it got me hooked (it was also my first glimps of a set of pipes, seeing a picture of that massive set in the LP liner notes; little did I realise at the time that it wasn’t quite the same as most modern “standard” sets; it just looked really ridiculously cool and complex). I’ve since always considered Joe to be the guy that influenced me to take up the pipes. To my everlasting sorrow, I never got a chance to hear him play live or meet him and thank him for his impact on the musical direction my life too from hearing his piping.
At any rate, I know information on Taylor sets can be hard to come by ( I am aware of the site which attemps to catalog all the known sets that still exist, but it makes no mention of what became of Joe’s set after he died). If anyone has any leads, it would interest me greatly just to know what became of that set. Thanks!
Cheers,
Zac
