Sadly Joe Scurfield, fiddler with the Old Rope String Band, has been killed in a car crash. A very funny man and an extremely talented musician. A great loss.
Sorry to hear it. At least he and Glenn Schultz can play tunes together, along with all the other greats who have left us…
Very sad news indeed. I saw them in action a few year back and was amazed at their versatility and showmanship.Joe was the centrepiece of the band and was a first class entertainer.

Two musicians were killed in a ‘hit and run’ incident-as well as Joe,the gifted Saxophonist/composer/educator Keith Morris was the other victim.
I met,and played with Keith in 1979,and found him to be a delightful character.
Music in the North East of England has suffered a double senseless loss this week.
A 17 year old man and a 21 year old woman are being questioned by Police.
Joe’s funeral is to be this friday, the 17th, at the bandstand in Nuns Moor Park, Nuns Moor Road, Newcastle upon Tyne at 10am, and friends, fellow musicians, or anyone else whose life was enriched by knowing him are most welcome.
