It's Friday and the Sun is out -- so let's waste time.....

Going to 70 F today here in Windsor, the sun is shining, the sky is blue and I don’t know what to do, ---- while at work doing doodoo for the corp(se) :boggle:

So I went here and whiled away the hours

Throwing cows into the air.

And running in fresh in fresh air :astonished:

Windsor where?

Wow… I made it into the Cow Flinging Hall of Fame. Truly an honor that I would never have expected. :stuck_out_tongue:

My apologies to Kathy…

Tch, tch Cranberry. Didn’t you see the capatilized ON in Mark’s description of where he lives. Maybe I’m attuned to it because I’m ON the same side of the border.

Anyway, I’m not up for wasting any more time. Gotta practice.

Steve

Has Ontario got lots of borrowed English place names?

Being from London myself, with Windsor just a few miles up the river (Thames), the sun shining and all right in my world, I can chime to MarkB’s tune…

Cranberry you have asked a question that most of Canada asks me all the time and when talking to government officals at any level, I get the same question Where is Windsor? — Where?

So don’t feel bad

MarkB

Here in London ON we also have a Thames. Very likely you had it first Martin. We also have a Covent Garden Market. Strung out along highway 401 there’s Windsor, London and Cambridge. But there are also a lot of Scottish names too. Fergus, Ailsa Craig, New Dundee, Strathroy. The names are all over the place, actually.

Steve

Let’s see in Essex County, Ontario, Canada there is Essex, Windsor, Harrow, Colchester, Leamington, Wheatly.

Hi Mark & Steve!

I’ve got the same sun shining a little west of you here in Kalamazoo. It feels great! I just spent the lunch hour playing tunes with a fiddler who works on the same campus I do. I’m hungry but satiated music-wise!

Cara

Are you at Western Michigan? I’ve got a friend who has taught there for a long time. I haven’t been around Kazoo for long time but I have spent a bit of time there.

Steve

Yes, I’ve worked at Western for 10 years, and before that I was a student. Originally from Canada (BC), I just got stuck in my college town and can’t leave! Who is your friend who worked here?

Cara

Hi Cara and Steve,

I have been thinking that once the vagaries of winter travel are behind us here in the central continent region, that we should have a whistle in. Since Kalamazoo and London are equal distance from Windsor, that it be in Windsor.

There are quite a few of C&Fers, there is Eubiedubie, Colomon in Ann Arbor, Bob in Lakeshore Ontario, and whistlers in this area that like to have fun.

There is a bed and breakfast that given time and notice would let us play all day/night – well almost.

Let me know what you think and when to think it (date wise)

MarkB

That sounds very agreeable. I like the B&B idea.

I did see. That’s why I asked. I’ve been to that Windsor before. They almost didn’t let us into the country because of our accents and we didn’t have any identification. This was about 5 years ago, before 9/11. Things have probably changed since.

Cranberry to say things have changed is an understatement. Picture ID, DNA samples, etc. that’s just to get into Canada. Try getting back into the USA even though you are citizen – it can be rough at times.

MarkB

Cara, Mark, Steve,

I’m also in Kalamazoo. I’d love to join a whistle trip to Windsor.

Windsor seems pretty centrally located for that. I’m not familiar with the city or the music scene there but it sounds like a get-together there could be fun.
Based on Cranberry’s experience, I’d say bring some sort of identification. They sort of like that stuff at the border.

Steve

Hi guys.. Let me work on this gathering thing. If it can’t be in the bed and breakfast in downtown Windsor, then it might be the Kildare House, which is ten minutes from downtown.

In both places we have sessions on regular schedule and both are open to any ideas for gatherings which include ITM or Celtic music. So let me make some inquiries.

But it sounds interesting to meet you all and play some tunes.

MarkB

Bring your passport! I was chewed out last August, I mean REALLY laid into, by the customs officer because I only had my driver’s licence on me. She explained to me that I personally was responsible for months of bottlenecks at border crossings. Even in Mexico. Okay, not really in Mexico. I accepted this. Anyway, about halfway through the rant I realized she was going to let me go. I began to see her as a glowing angel even though the harsh buzzing noises were still coming from her mouth. I was delivered unto the land of Chretien, praise be.

And so I say to thee, go find thy passport!

Cara

Mark,

Have you been subjected to DNA testing or has anyone that you know? I keep hearing about this but haven’t experienced it myself nor has anyone I know. Some people go to the US fairly regularly and haven’t had any trouble.
I went over in Feb with some family members and we had no trouble. The Iraq war hadn’t started then of course.
