Oh no!
Not another mystery whistle…
Open another box of Ralstons, Mom, I just need three more box tops!
Wow, apparently it’s not one of a kind either. Does anyone know what “Tom Mix” refers to?

$35 for a dog whistle ??
You’re gonna make some of us date ourselves. Tom Mix was a cowboy star of the early talkies days - pre 1940, I believe as well as a radio show that lasted longer. The ring involved is a collectible premium a kid could get by sending in something like cereal box lids (“Ralstons” in Mack’s previous post) or bottle caps or the like. In the condition its in, it’ll go a lot higher than the current $38 by the time the bidding closes tomorrow morning.

Nothing salves a weary soul like a cheap whistle.

What next? Nose flutes?
Nose Flutes.
Well there is such a thing.
I have heard a wonderful rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” done on them by some clever if not tallented foursome group at a dulcimer festival.
The only draw back about them is you do not want to play them with a cold… eeoooooo!
Laura

Lark in the Morning has them…

1/3 of the way down the page, just below the plastic toy saxophone. For $1 each. If you want to get serious about your nose flute… there’s the metal model, at a mere $39.95

Hey Tony,
Neat links thanks! I just love gadgets.
I never would include my gadgets on my list of acquisitions. Too many gadgets.
I enjoy using my gadgets for Vaction Bible School, and going into the classrooms. My latest was when I did an acoustic ecology class. Gadgets are fun!!!
Have you ever heard of Boom Wackers?
They a cylindrical tubes of various lengths that produce a pitch or note. Kids tend to get are little carried away with them banging each other on the head with them.
And you can play them with a cold. A headache might not be good though. ![]()
