I had a porcelain flute just like that, might be same maker. He makes occarinas too, i have one of them. Can’t remember the guy’s name. The flute sounded very nice, it was pitched in F and in tune. Unfortunately, one day it just decided to split in the middle, very clean, with no provocation.
This instrument is called a “Sluskinje”(pr. sloo-SKIN-yay) or “Slulkinja”(pr. slool-KIN-yah) and is similar to the Dvojnice double pipe. Your ceramic pipe-n-drone is a western version of this Yugoslavic instrument. Here is a diagram from a Slavic site(use a translator program for content).
(pssst. Cranberry. the only thing missing from your avitar is the bolts in her neck and the “big hair” with a white streak. I don’t think there is anything left on her thats real!)

It doesn’t matter if she’s plastic, I love her for her intelligence. She’s a spokesperson for PeTA, too.
You are a collective font of whistle whisdom…I am forever on the quest to find the whistle that stumps the mighty C&F board!
Thanks for the info, did you see the whissle with the four tubes? Good grief, you must have to be really good to even carry a tune with that thing (and have a set of Pratt & Whitneys for lungs)…boy, it could sound really neat though.
I agree Ty. If this instrument were made with a closed tube drone and the voicing window of both tubes was halved, this instrument would play easy and the drone would remain at low pitch when the melody pipe was overblown.(Thomas uploads this thought to aging memory banks)
I’m very fond of the ocarinas I have from this guy, but really didn’t like dealing with him directly. I was pretty irritated that he didn’t let me try out a flute when I saw him at a show…probably would have bought it if I had been able to try it first.
In addition, a potter has contacted me about his whistles, so I may eventually have another raku whistle to compare this against.
And no comment from our #1 poster about acquisition fever please!
