ITM Ipod

Hey all.

I just bought myself an ipod and think it is the bees knees. I have loaded just about every piece of ITM I own on the the little guy and still have about 12 gigs to spare. I also just joined E-music and am looking forward to delving into the old Shanachie catalouge to really expose myself to more music. To have so many tunes in one place, and to be able to cycle through them with so little effort is amazing. I feel it will truly help build my repertoire as I can carry a good chunk of the recordecd ITM cannon with me wherever I go, not to mention tons of session recordings, classes and even and a basic Gaelic audio lesson downloaded from Itunes. If it only had the abilities to record with the same quality as a min-disk I would ask for it’s hand in marriage.

Anyway…

quick question out there for those of you who are more techincally advanced and familiar with the I-world… What format is I-tunes ripping CD’s to. In other words, once the tunes from my CD’s are in the Itunes music Library, how can I access them with other programs, like Transcribe for instance. I have been trying to get Transcribe to open the files in the Itunes folder with no sucess. I have over 1,000 tunes now on my hard drive and the thought of being able to dissect any of these at any time is tantalizing. It usually is such a hassel to rip stuff for learning purposes, I have a folder of about 50 mp3s that I am currently working on learning with transcribe, but I feel like a lot of practice time was wasted by converting those files. Now that I have this enormous collection, that I have spent a good deal of time getting into my computer, it would be great if I could pop tunes into transcribe at will.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It’s off-topic and I know I’m being a pain but… nothing beats the iRiver for a musician, as not only can you load tunes, you can record in real-time in MP3 format. It’s been my best friend for a while (and my concertina my best girlfriend, off course!)

Yes Az, I am still awaiting an email about that box!

Hi Azlin,

Geez I just search the forums and saw your earlier posts regarding the I river. I must have missed them in my previous searchs for mp3 player/recorders. It sounds like a great little unit. Anyway, I also see that you will be up in East Durham this summer. Perhaps I will get a chance to see the IRiver in action. What classes are you taking?

Yo, Matt,
iTunes saves files in the AAC format (better/smaller than MP3 we are told). You can change the preference to import to MP3. You can also convert any tune to MP3 under the “advanced menu.” On my Mac, I just drag a track from the iTunes window onto the desktop and open it in Transcribe.

Hey Matt,

Yes I’ll be in East Durham, we can meet and talk about MP3s  I’ll be there for the whole week.

Azlin,

let’s certainly try and meet at some point. We can try and set a time and place perhaps next week.

Bloom,

thanks for the advice, I am usually scared off by advanced tabs and did not bother to check it before. I am now transfering everything to mp3 which will increase my tues that I can run in transcribe to about 2000. Now If I could only learn a tune a day I would be set.
