Irlande : Douze Points. Dustin the Turkey goes to Eurovision

Some think he’s Poultry in Motion and some are disgusted by his selection as the singer to represent Ireland at Eurovision.

Whatever way you think of him, Dustin the Turkey is one of the great icons of Ireland.

Go on yer good thing!

I’m speechless. Just looking at the photo makes me want to laugh, but I find it hard to believe they actually chose him…somewhat akin to choosing Kermit the Frog to sing the Star Spangled Banner at the Olympics…or something. People are funny.

Just watched and listened on youtube.

12 points from Denmark.

The Eurovision establishment in the form of Dana, Phil Coulter and the like are truly disgusted but it was an audience vote and it was obvious the moment Dustin entered he would be the main turkey (the other songs were at best unmemorable as well).

To understand the whole thing you need to know the context of generations of children growing up with the great contrarian vox populi Dustin represents.

His version of ‘Rat trap’ with Bob Geldof released ten years ago is a classic, as much as the original.

:boggle:

Considering the Nervousness with which Ireland discovered it had won Eurovision for the third time, because they found that it was expensive to host the competition, perhaps they are just making REALLY sure they won’t, for the next few times.

You got it wrong there, after not managing to get much beyond last place in years and not even scoring a single point last year the Irish Eurovision people are very very anxious to make their mark again. They were convinced Dervish would do at least something last year and Brian Kennedy before them.

Ofcourse the opinion on the street that follows is ‘this won’t be the first turkey we’ve sent’

I suspect it is some kind of protest that a turkey was selected to go to the eurovision song contest. In light of the way things have gone with it in the last few years, its just lost all credability as a song contest.
How can it be a song contest when a heavy metal band can win,so I think Ireland have now taken the right step and treating it as a joke because that it what it has become .

RORY

Well, he couldn’t do much worse than Dervish’s cringeworthy effort. Or the Ukranian dancing transvestite spacemen.
