Hi. I have just started opening my eyes for the great music Irish Folk is! But a pitty is that i twise times have bought a cd from the music store, and when i here it, i think it is some crap. The First is The Dubliners: 40 years, witch i dont like because it goes so slow, and that the sings to the music. What i want i some Instrumental and very fast music.
The Next it the box: The Magic of Ireland, wicth i feel is the biggest crap ever. All songs goes so slow, so i think my granny would like it. And then i even feel it like being Irish. More International. To modern!
Its fast, and its cool. And fantastisc played. And i feel like dancing.
So my question is, what shall i go and buy in the music store. It must be some populare bands (world wide), because the music shop only got a few cd’s with Irish Folk. If you are shure they dont have it in my music store. Please then tell a homepage where i can buy it!
You are going to have a bit of trouble until you understand that there are many different styles and different tastes. Some people think the old styles are the best, or that the slowest styles are the best, or that only traditional instruments are best, etc. There are also different styles from different regions of Ireland.
I agree that some of the collection CDs have some terrible music on them, but they can also be a way to learn about groups you might like. When buying collections, look for the ones called “samplers”. These are the record companies’ way of presenting a selection of their artists.
You have spotted one group, De Danann. Why not get some of their CDs? Use YouTube to find other styles/group names that you like. There are many on-line stores selling Irish Traditional Music. It depends on where you live as to which is closest/fastest/cheapest for you. Use Google to find stuff for sale.
Some ITM record companies to check on the web with huge selections: Claddagh, Tara, Shanachie, Green Linnet.
I agree entirely with djm about the many different styles of Irish music. But based on what you said I think you’d like the bands Lunasa or Flook. Check them out, you won’t be disappointed.
