Newcomer, looking for assistance!

Hello!

I am completely new to this type of thing, and I am having some difficulties. I am a fan of fast-paced type of what I guess would be Irish folk music, and I would like to find a bunch of songs that I would like. The problem is, almost everything I find is much more mellow than the style I am looking for. For example, the song played during the movie Titanic on the lower deck -which I believe is John Ryans Polka- is a fast paced type of song.

I guess I am looking for any help I can get with names of songs that might be similar to this, and maybe where to find them. I know that a song such as John Ryans Polka can be done many, many different ways…from very slow, to very fast, and everything in between.

Any assistance I can get would be a great help. Its my first venture into this type of music (lately, listening to Mumford and Sons awoke a desire for Irish folk music, oddly enough). Thank you!

Welcome. Do you play?

No, unfortunately not. I was not gifted with the ability to play instruments. I tried when I was younger and failed horribly. Thank you for the links!

Well, the band which appeared in that Titanic scene
is Gaelic Storm. Their recordings have several tunes
of that nature. You can find one of their CDs on
Amazon and listen to samples to see if any tracks
are to your liking. (This goes for any commercial band)

Another way to go about it is to find a “Celtic music”
podcast and listen to several episodes. Most of these
podcasts feature independent bands and provide links
to the band’s website so if you hear one you like you
can find more music by that band. Some such podcasts:
