Irish music in Omaha?

What opportunities might there be to listen to Irish or Scottish music in the Omaha area in the next couple of weeks? I’ve never been to Nebraska before, but am going there next week on business.

Better yet, are there any music sessions in the area where the public might come to listen and (if invited) whistle along?

Cheers,
Adrienne

A friend of mine from Omaha is hangin’ with me here and he said that he didn’t know of anyplace… Anyone?

Probably the most reliable place that regularly has music of an Irish or Celtic nature is the Dubliner in the Old Market of the downtown area. I stopped by on Saturday to get a schedule of bands for the next few weeks but the owner said there was a slight mistake in the schedule so his wife had collected the handouts and was re-doing them. I had thought maybe I could get the schedule and post it for you here but alas, that’s not to be. I live about 1 1/2 hours from Omaha so easily getting the new schedule is not possible. Here’s the address for the Dubliner.

Dubliner Pub
1205 Harney St
Omaha, NE 68102 tel# 402-342-5887

Another posssibility

The Brazen Head Irish Pub
319 N 78th St
Omaha, NE 68144 402-393-3731

and finally

McGuires Irish Pub
10730 Pacific St
Omaha, NE 402-397-1768

I hope those help. I’ve been to all three and depending on who’s playing it’s fun. If a group called The Turfmen are playing anywhere try to see them. Depending on my schedule I might could join you one night if you are interested. MarkV from Lincoln may also have some ideas about both Lincoln and Omaha

take care

If that’s not an reason to do some, uh, research, now that I’m here, I don’t know what is. Have to eat supper somewhere, don’t you know.

I just arrived here; give me a few days and I’ll let you know what I find out.

Best,
Adrienne

schedule for the Dubliner (sorry I took so long)

May 15-16-17 Darrin Crossey
May 22-23-24-25 Pete Yeates
May 30-31 Donnybrook

Also, the Brazen Head is quite promising; I don’t have a schedule to hand but they seem to have music pretty consistently; it’s worth a phone call to them if you’re coming to town. They also are said to have open mike on Sundays; again, call ahead.

And if any of the Morris dancers from Omaha are reading this, thanks for letting me play along with you this evening!

Cheers,
Adrienne
