Hey me fellows,
new as i am, i have questions already, irony of life isn’t it?
Well, i have a thing that bothers me soul, as we all have, but unlike it seems, its not as bad as you think
I was just wondering, if you know some irish (or gaelig or such) acapella singing men, like old men in the pubs…just heard some songs live and i think my heart stopped for a second…so help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
sincerely
yours banggallagher
(i wanted to call me “the crippled irishman”, but they wouldn’t let me)
Everyone has their favourite singers, of course, but if you’re looking for real sean-nós male singers, my personal favourites from years ago would include Diarmuid Ó Súilleabháin, Seán 'ac Dhonncha, and Darach Ó Catháin. Lots of people like Joe Heaney’s singing. Of the newer male sean-nós singers, you might like to check out Meatí Jó Shéamuis Ó Fátharta and Peadár Ó Ceannabháin.
Thanks a million for the fast replies and insight in this knowledge of yours, i sure will take actions on losing my Paddy Whack Drivel, it was worth a try
So now, its time to check your replies on quality, not only quantity…and i am sure some more replies will find their ways onto this post.
The night is young and the wild turkey won’t empty itself…
also The Voice Squad do three part settings of old songs giving a sense of harmonic context (if you need it).
djm
has it, Seán 'ac Dhonncha, Diarmuid Ó Súilleabháin and Darach Ó Catháin are the bhoys for the pure
but also check out the female sean-nós singers i’ve just seen Roisin Elsafty and bought her CD @ Glasgow’s Celtic Connection here
Geordie, the original request was for names of male sean-nós singers, and that is what I provided. There was no intention on my part to slight female sean-nós singers.
