Instrument trunk?

Jessie K mentioned in another thread
that she has an instrument trunk.
This set me to wondering if
there’s a more convenient way
to store and humidy flutes,
at least at home, then jamming
them into gun cases together
with sponges.

I envisage a wood-lined chamber,
about the size of a steam bath,
with camphored vapors rising
from an underground grotto.
The lovely attendant places the
flute I’ve just played on
one of the many flute racks
that line the walls. The
lighting is subdued…

Well, anyway, is there something
at Walmart that’ll make
this part of life easier?

That’ll work. I have a much smaller wooden box, in which I place my flute case, along with a sponge. The wooden case is like a small room, well but not over-humidified, and so the flute stays comfortable.
I do like Jim’s idea, though, if you could throw in a few maids behind a bar, or churning butter or something…

I use an “Igloo” brand portable refrigerator. Price was around $80 as I recall. The inside dimensions are 16" wide x 17" high x 14" deep. It has a front opening door and a shelf. In the winter I keep flutes in it, using a damp sponge to humidify it. In summer I take the flutes out and we use it for its intended purpose on camping trips.

I don’t have anything so fancy I’m afraid - Just a large tupperware container that I keep the Olwell and my Abells in, along with a couple of guitar humidifiers and a hygrometer. The flute rests in it’s unzipped Cavallero case, and the Abells in a similar case, also unzipped.

Since I open the tupperware container one or more times a day, on average, there’s no need to worry about mold or mildew, unless I over wet the humidifiers and leave them in direct contact with the either of the cases.

One warning:

We found out the hard way when out apartment flooded, trunks and foot lockers marked as “waterproof” aren’t always really waterproof.

I would test it thoroughly before trusting beloved instruments to it.

Thanks to all. Jim

Cool trunk, Jessie! Now my hired Master Criminal will know what to look for.

THAT excellent idea falls under the “Why didn’t I think of that myself?” category.
Many thanks. I will be shopping for a flute humidor tonight (although I prefer Jim’s sybaritic approach to the issue -the luxury, the luxury).
