I couldn’t leave well enough alone, and started fiddling around with my Feadog D head. After some careful sandpapering and “fixing”, I’ve rendered the instrument practically unplayable now 
. I think I may have taken too much off the blade.
Is there any place that I can buy an inexpensive head for this whistle? I’m looking for something that’ll cost less than the original instrument.

Well, you could buy another one of what you have.
Or you could stretch it a little and buy a Whitecap head from Mack Hoover for $20.
I considered buying another Feadog. But knowing me, I’m sure I’m not going to let its head be either 
. I don’t want to end up with a lot of headless ex-whistles.

I’m with NorCal. A couple of months ago I also had a Feadog that was terrible. I got a Whitecap from Mack Hoover stuck it on, and instantly had the best high D I’ve ever played. I would not trade it for others I have that cost much more.

The Whitecap from my Hoover CPVC Soprano D also fits my Feadóg D perfectly (a little wax helped) and improves both the sound and playability. At $20, the Whitecap is more expensive than simply buying another Feadóg. However, it will make your old Feadóg sound better and doesn’t require any tweaking.

The LBW whistle head fits the Feadog with a turn of plumbers tape and it makes a very nice whistle.
hi nash, the white ncap is the way to go and will probably quell your WHOA for some months, until then try puting a piece of guitar pick over the blade, afix it with a little blue tack, slide it in or out 'til it sounds the best. one of my favorite whistles, a gen C, is repaired in this way.

Just had another thought as well. The Waltons Mellow D has gotten pretty good representation in the Whistle Poll. Maybe that head could fill the need on your tube as well.
Who would listen to anything OutOfBreath says about tweaking??? Would you mail your whistle to him for improvements? Maybe your Hall’s Crystal Flute? OOB, aren’t you a brain surgeon in real life? (He told me he was and I let him operate on my brain…)

My whitecap purchase will have to wait for some time now. I just bought three new whistles yesterday from the Whistle Shop (not the Feadog I’d referred to earlier ).
Anyway, one of them is a LBW, so I’m going to try some whistle grafting when I get home this evening. I’ll post the results; from what I hear, it looks promising. Thanks, all!
