Hi All!
Can you tell me where to find colonial music?
My daughter is in need of some for an elementary school class history project she is doing with her music students. I told her that the C&F people could tell us where to look.
Thanks for any help!
Cheers,
Kathy

Hi Kathy,
The Kitchen Musician site has tons of colonial music.

Thanks so much for the info Raven and Paul!
Paul, I thought you might be interested to know that my daughter has been teaching 4th and 5th graders Reer. She started a program called Karate Reer. Each student learns a certain amount of tunes or songs and they earn a “belt” which is really a cord that ties to their recorder so it can hang around their neck. After they get the belt then they earn different kinds of beads to put on their “belt” for learning so many more songs. She has actually been running out of songs for them to learn. They come in each Monday morning begging for the next set of tunes and she said they already know more about music than her 6 grade band class she teaches! I think she said since the first of the year they have learned about 4 different keys! The 4th graders are actually doing better than the 5th graders.
She is having a great time teaching them! I mentioned teaching them whistles instead but she said “have you ever stood in front of a room of about 30 children, each with a whistle in their mouth?”
Thanks again for the info.
Cheers,
Kathy
That’s great Kathy-- the recorder really is a superb instrument, although it gets bad press from people who have never progressed beyond Hot Cross Buns…

Have her look into "The Contemplator"s site - http://www.contemplator.com/folk.html -
As authoritative an early music source as exists anywhere. MIDIs and lyrics only, if she needs to turn it into sheet music she’ll need a translator program, but the site itself is awesome.
You know Paul, I think that’s about as far as I got with my recorder when I was in 3rd grade. It’s a shame. I think these kids will be going alot farther with theirs. They are having a blast with them and so is my daughter. She had never played one before last year.
Chuck, That’s a great site. I had that in my Fav’s but forgot all about it. I’ll pass it on to her. Thanks!
Cheers,
Kathy
