In awe of Isaac Alderson

I realize that I am a little behind in the news…like 10 years. I recently had a few tunes with a nice ole gent…find out that he’s won back to back senior All Ireland flute and is a fleadh judge…checked his name with the winners list…kept seeing this name in 2002 for winning flute, uillean pipes and whistle…Isaac Alderson from Chicago…I was certainly impressed with this feat! Then I googled him out of curiosity…WHAT?! I couldn’t believe what I was reading! American kid…English on his fathers side Jewish on his mothers…at 13 years of age starts on flute whistle and pipes…goes to Ireland 6 years later and WINS THE SR. ALL IRELAND ON ALL THREE IN THE SAME YEAR AT THE TENDER AGE OF 19…I think that that is incredibly amazing and awe inspriring! Just finding this out now and can’t stop thinking about it…only posting to give my belated props to Mr. Alderson and wanting to share his amazing story with people like me who hadn’t heard of this…WOWZER !!

He’s a good player, for sure! I’ve had the good fortune to see him play a number of times. He seems to work pretty hard at it. He’s played with a lot of different folk and groups. I particularly enjoyed him with Comas playing along with Aiden Burke, Philip Masure and Jackie Moran. And seeing as much of the audience were anticipating Sylvain Barou to be playing flute, Alderson won them over quickly. Those boys would have burned the place down were they any hotter.

Attractive style too. Very punchy.
