the other night i was able to check out isaac alderson playing with the eileen ivers band at a local theater.wow, this kid can play, and makes it look easy.he plays a kirk lynch set, he only played a few times, the rest of the show he played wood flute.i was really impressed, but most of the reels were played at lighting speed, and never heard colonial fraser played that fast.all in all a good show, worth checking out. cheers!
I saw him play over the summer and was very impressed as well. Don’t care for his ‘human beatbox’ routine though. Most impressive was his ability to play flute in a rather strong wind.
He is pretty cool, all right. Very sort of modern style, I’d say. I was most impressed by his ability to transpose perfectly on the spot and play in E on a D flute! He taught me a reel in A on the pipes. Fun stuff!
When a person demonstrates that ability to me, it takes all of my effort not to strangle them.
… but, somehow you manage not to… right?
I believe Isaac won three All-Ireland competitions in one day a few years back – Flute, Whistle and Pipes. A nice guy along with his talent. Best, Pipey
