…at hearing the uilleann pipes while watching an episode of the Backyardigans with my two year old! I was dozing off on the couch when the familiar tone of the pipes hit my ears. Throughout the entire episode, the pipes were playing. Muirenn (my daughter) kept saying “pipes, pipes!” when they were being played. Interesting and unexpected appearance of our beloved instrument.

I was surprised to hear the pipes in an episode of Battle Star Galactica.
Pipes in Space!
I have two thoughts on the subject:
1.) Whew! We’ve ‘arrived’ !
and
2.) Thank God those animators have gotten rid of that damned ocarina.

That song is called “Wander My Friends” and was written by Bear McCreary, the music composer for the show, and was featured on the BSG soundtrack. Great use of the uilleann pipes IMHO!

As for Noggin/Nick Jr. my 2 1/2 year old and 1 year old love a lot of the shows that feature music. I’m pretty sure Backyardigans is using the RA VST sampler, or some equivalent. I doubt they’re the real deal, most cartoons shows have music composers well versed in synthesizers/samplers for almost everything. The only exception is Jack’s Big Music Show which had the foresight to have real musicians and actors performing alongside the puppets (kind of like a new version of Muppets) and singing songs and playing real instruments.
Amazing where you run into Celtic influences, eh?! ![]()

I watched a Jackie Chan animated cartoon awhile ago and there was pipes in that, it’s amazing where you’ll hear pipes these days.

It does not sound sampled:

That show always had interesting music, and had very high production standards.
I believe that Isaac Alderson is the guilty party in this case!
That’s part time LA man Lillis O’Laoire singing on that there so it is.
Pats.
In the past, I have heard uilleann pipes in a Nissan 4x4 commercial as well as a commercial for The Hartford insurance company.
I guess there are probably many pipers driving Nissan trucks with good insurance policies as a result. ![]()

Sounded like the real deal to me, and the credits had Ivan Goff listed under musicians.
So, the latest name for V-pipes now is “Toaster”?
