Have we already talked about this here and I just missed it?
Dale
Has anybody played one?
Doc
Seen the site before, never played one though.
Loren
They seem to be high-end whistles. Hopefully someone has tried them and will tell us about them. They are outside my meagre price range, though.
This is the first I’ve seen or heard of it; note that it lists C&F on its links page (as well as Alba). Apparently Dale has had no contact with them yet. The whistles sure look pretty, but there’s not a lot to go on here. No idea re sound quality as no clips and no mention of bore diameter or wall thickness or reach or testimonials for that matter.
Anyone?
Philo
Dale, there was some talk about these whistles recently, check out the link:

Someone asked a week or two ago (Amar I believe) and it got only one or two responses.
I checked it out and had about the same feelings that are being expressed here. Then sorta forgot about it. They are impressive looking instruments!
I don’t think we should let this one slip through the corporate C&F fingers!
Mack
Edited to apologize for an untimely post. Amar beat me to it.

Mack, hehehehehe…
There’s not been much talk, no, but enough to get me interested. I wrote them just now and asked if they might be willing to send a demo model over. Eh, doesn’t hurt to ask, does it?
Certainly is a snazzy website with snazzzzy whistles. I’m going to have to start wearing pink goggles when I play.
Stuart
They’re really pretty. Can’t say I’ve ever played one or heard one being played though.
One thing: looking at the pictures, I can’t tell if they are soprano Ds or low Ds since there’s nothing in the pictures to compare them to, but they almost look like low Ds to me for some weird reason. The “buy” page doesn’t designate them as soprano or low…
is confused

Sam - It really isn’t immediately clear, but I gather from the relative prices that the D is a low D, as the F costs less and is most likely a low F.

Seems to me I mentioned them in the chat room one night (ok, so I surf sometimes between comments - so sue me). No one there at the time had tried one and my pocketbook won’t allow the luxury of being a guinea pig anymore.
I don’t know how big the guy in the pink goggles is, but unless he’s really tiny, he’s playing a low whistle in the photo.
I’m intrigued, but like Chuck, I can’t afford to be the guinea pig.
under the /about link it says:
“Although the Low whistle was successfully re-invented in the late 60’s, the instruments absence from the hands of the great 19th century…ect. ect. ect.” looks like low’s for the time being…
They are low D whistles. Click on the button under Misha’s picture and he explains the history of the Low D, why it lapsed and how is bringing it back with his style and design.

Pretty whistles, wonder who the proffessionals (MK’s spelling) are who roadtested them?
£125.00 for a low D is the same as for an Overton in London; not having heard one, I’d rather have an Overton which has a known pedigree, or a Howard or Dixon (which I have) for less.
All the whistles seem to be low, I’m suprised he doesn’t offer a high D too.
Misha really ought to do a spell and grammer check on his site. I spotted 4 errors on a brief glance through, there are probably more. Gives an un-proffessional (!) appearance to the site.
They look very nice, and I’d love to see a review. Somebody buy one! ![]()

May I suggest an idea ?
Make a raffle to buy it. Get it sent from the manufacturer to Dale for review. After it, the winner finally gets the whistle.
It looks like I’m the only one that has tried one. I think Boyd has, though, and he’s just not speaking up. Misha was at the Strathspey in May as part of the instrument makers forum. As I said in the other post, they are nice whistles. The fellow who makes them is the one playing them on stage. We had a little chat and he seems affable enough (if a bit tired from his gig/drive the night before).
I’m always a bit leary when someone claims to be trying to make the “best in the world” of something that clearly has no best but appeals to different people in different ways. I will say that his craftsmanship competes with the best that I’ve seen. I remember the sound to be nice, but I was not particularly struck enough to lay down the money that he was charging (not that I didn’t think that they were worth the money - I was actually more interested in a Shaw Low D at the time (apologies to Jessie
 )).
I can’t comment upon specific characteristics (having tried them many months ago), but can only relay my remembered reaction. They are nice well made whistles, but not ground breaking. As I collect whistles, I’m sure that I will purchase one eventually.
