It’s been a bit of a wait; but, I got word from Misha at MK Whistles that my Low D has shipped! Yes!
If you have one or played one, what do you think? Best, Cyril.

I’ve heard of nothing but trouble with those Cyril. If your rotten postman tries to unload that thing on you tell him to forget it and have him forward it to me.
Doc
Dagnabit! I just knew I got stung! Thanks for steering me right, Doc.
I heard they make dogs howl, so probably not a good idea to send to Doc-just send it to me Cyril-I only have cats.

It’s been a bit of a wait; but …
How long a wait??
And had you seen or tried anyone’s MK before ordering?
Anyone out there got an F by him?
Boyd
Well, they’re as ugly as sin and nobody wants one, so I think you made a horrible error.

Have it rerouted to me, and i’ll do a thorough test drive for you … no.. really!
8 to 10 months was the estimate. It turned out to be 6 months. Just as I had not “tried” a Terry McGee Irish flute befor ordering; I had no direct experience with an MK. I did do some homework and found some anecdotal info.
Every once and awhile, I will roll the dice. Cheers, Cyril.
And to think I had one of those black beauties in my hands, during a trip to Scotland in Jan2006. Didn’t buy it.
But then, I was a complete noob on low whistles.
Now that I know I missed my chance, they are sought-after and sold-out everywhere.
Aha, an opening to talk about my GSD! So, is it true that dogs prefer to howl in the key of D?
I have a review of an MK low f here:

I am also currently on the waiting list for a low D, but I guess I’m not in this round! ![]()
Sorry for your wait … as we know: it’s the hardest part. You might check the MK site as I believe the price has increased to £170. Cyril.
Of the MANY (dozens?) of low d’s that I have tried out, including such powerhouses as Copeland, I have settled on my Bleazey (soooooo smooth) and my Overton (raw trad sound).
I hope the MK is what you want and expect.
Sure would be nice if you let Doc give it a spin as I could then just happen over and see what it is about. ![]()
DOUBLE POST!!! ABORT ABORT!!! ![]()

I’ve heard that cats don’t like them either… they run around the room for 30 seconds and then fall over dead. You can send it to me, I don’t have any pets. ![]()

As you know, Colin Goldie will make a whistle pretty much to your specs. That being said, my Overton low D is about 30% louder than the Copeland I sold. In fact, it’s almost as loud as my Irish flute. Go figure.
I have heard great things about Bleazeys.
Before I send off the MK, I have to test it on the dog. If he howls, I keep it … he’s actually starting to sing in a fashion. Cheers, Cyril.
I have both an MK Low D and an MK Low F.
When I play them, pigs fly…I pay no taxes…and politicians tell the utter truth. (And if I lived in Idaho, the missus would swoon???)
I have no idea how humble my opinion is, but these whistles are all-round top notch! For me, they embody the best qualities of what is possible in a beautifully made aluminum Low Whistle. Nicely textured voice, ease of handling, and they’re in tune. And, they have “presence.” ( have I said too much???)
Top Notch.
I bought an early model of an MK low D from another Chiff & Fippler a few years back.
It had a lovely tone and looked the business but the intonation was quite wayward on a few notes. MK refused to fix this free of charge as the whistle was out of warranty and ‘all players blow notes differently’. Luckily, the chap I’d bought it from was good enough to take it back.
Quite frustrating, given that most high-end makers would gladly sort out any intonation issues free of charge to ensure customer satisfaction.

Music to my ears! Thanks for your post. Cyril.

I will second Cyril on that… except for the pigs flying : I’ve been warned on side effects of too much air consumption!
But that shows how this whistle is attractive. Since I have mine, I stopped reading at other low D reviews…
Pascal.
