It’s today!! In our fair city, the parade is early, in this case 2 weeks early, so we can snare all the pipe bands that go down to NYC for their parade.
NWS says it’s 27 degrees out (-3 centigrade)!! Plus, I can’t go anyway until my laundry is done, and the dryer is not in an industrious mood today.
I seen it last year: the biggest crowd you’ll ever see in this empty town, all beer in hand along main street, with the cops on parade waving to you and your open alcohol container. I feel like walking over and taking a look, but living in the empty part of the world has made me a bit crowd-phobic.
London UK is doing St Patrick’s Day early too, on Sunday 12th March.
Doesn’t seem so special somehow, if it’s not on the right day, but Avanutria and I may go along because there are a few fiddle and concertina workshops on, hopefully free.
So, where are the best venues for a good session turnout? Used to be a great one in Co Kilburn a few years back but I hear thats all gone sour now. Is it Hammersmith or elsewhere these days then?
I’ll be trudging along this Saturday at the Roanoke,VA St. Pat’s parade. I dread it because I always freeze. I think this year the old “longhandles” are going to be part of my band uniform. I really don’t care what my knees look like, but I do care if they are numb.
