So I went ahead and got this Kohlert on ebay. It’s not in terrible shape, but needs some restoration, most of which I would like to do myself. here are the things that need to be addressed:
-heavily tarnished keys
-inside of the bore and tone holes are grimy
-Inside of the headjoint lining is grimy, with some oxidation
-a thin crack in the headjoint, not though the embrochure hole
-a previous, and not very good, repair to what must been a big piece broken off the top of one of the barrel pieces, right through the tone hole.
-weak low E and virtually non-existant low D.
-key pads seal o.k. but do need to be replaced.
So where do I start and what advice can people offer? Should I first try humidifying the flute? It seems pretty dry. I may send it out to have the cracks repaired. Mainly, I want to give it a thorough cleaning and see if the tone can be improved. I’d appreciate any help anyone could offer. Thanks!
