How to play regulators.

Hello pipers.

I wrote several posts about regulators and how to make them. Finally with your help And time to experiment a friend maker and I make the three regulators.
Here in Spain there aren’t teachers so this is my question,

I have music of uilleann where I can listen the chords that it can be played in songs that I played before with my drones. The problem is that I never see how regulators are played while you play the chanter.
I have some books with regulator’s chords and each note that can be played but they don’t say anything about how to play.
Sometimes I need to separate the thumb of right hand of the chanter to helping me for playing a chord, Is it normal?
Some book, video, web or any advise about how to play regulators.

Thanks for all.

The NPU tutorial video Volume 3 has a section on regulator playing - very introductory, but probably answers your questions. Although there are many possible chords on the regulators, you would only play the ones easily reached while playing the chanter. In other words, if you need your bottom hand on the chanter, you would forgo some chords. However, if the tune allows you to play with just the upper hand for a measure or two, many players will take the bottom hand off the chanter and do some fancy work with the fingers of the bottom hand.

The NPU has also a video “The singing chanter” from Pat McNulty. He is 45min playing the regulators.
