How to handle waiting

I ordered a Sindt whistle a while ago and still have to wait until March or so for it. I think I have the perfect plan to deal with waiting. I ordered a Jubilee practice low D and that should arrive shortly. Then after that I can get another whistle that will arrive in a matter of weeks instead of months and keep it up until the Sindt gets here. This way I won’t go crazy waiting for the Sindt. OOPS Too late. I was waiting for the mail truck just in case it got here early.

Many makers (and tweakers) may have odd items in stock at any given time. All you have to do is to contact each one in turn and see what they have on hand. I’ve gotten several whistles with virtually no waiting.

Of course, you can also buy from the on-line shops.

I understand your impatience and did the same as you, Angelo. Instead of ordering one or two Overtons from Colin, I ordered four so I wouldn’t have to wait for another one again soon. And while waiting six months for delivery of the Overtons, I purchased several other Burkes, etc. That tactic only somewhat mitigated my impatience, and I too watched for the postman.

• Take up knitting.

• Plant a fall garden.

• Visit local river, gather cane, and learn to make your own whistles.

• Get a cape and some Spandex and a boy wonder and a Batmobile and become the Batman.

• Get a 6-pack of plastic whistle party favors and attempt to tweak at least one of them to the point that Mary Had a Little Lamb can be played upon it.

• Get a harmonica.

• Go down to the court house and become undersheriff.

• Build a toolshed.

• Scope out locations for busking, in anticipation of that Sindt.

• Forget about the Sindt, and enjoy the rich mellow tones of that Jubilee practice whistle.

• Get a horse and join an equestrian society.

If I had to wait that long for a Sindt, I’d bust into Burnsbyrne’s house and steal his.

Hey, if this is all it takes to be Batman count me in.

And not to sound any more ignorant than I am; but. what the heck is busking?

Nope, this one is a no can do. My almost 3yo daughter Victoria (she’ll be three on Saturday! ) has already taken over the roll of Batman. Oh, but she says that she’s Batman Girl…I’m not exactly sure what that means, though

Walden,

I like your suggestions. So far, the only thing that takes my mind off the waiting is coaching an under-10 year old soccer team. I am always amazed when they do something the way I taught them. This year’s team looks like it will be a lot of fun. They have already amazed me many times.

Practice
(sorry, someone had to say it)

How many whistles’n’flutes  can I get for the price of a horse  . Not just ANY horse you understand  .

Botherations - I just got a new llama last weekend.

Trisha…only one whistle on order, and judging by other posts, could be ten years waiting (estimate was July 2004 ).

I’m going to have to start locking my doors. Sheesh!

Don’t worry, I lost the map to your house.

Sometimes, in America, it’s possible to adopt wild mustangs from the government. There was a similar program with donkeys, methinks.

And elephants.

It’s part of program to humanely retire over-the-hill politicians. :poke:

It occurred to me today that flute makers usually want a deposit of 20-50%. So when the Hammy finally comes in hopefully six more months, it will be HALF PRICE! A Hammy for the price of a good low-D whistle. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Waiting. I can relate. It was the nearly 4 year wait for my Uilleann Pipes that led me to C&F, and because of C&F to nearly all of the whistles that I now have. Now I’m just waiting on a Concertina that I ordered from Frank Edgley some time ago. After the Uilleann Pipe wait I am pretty much immune to going nuts with anticipation any more, but still…

I think my original plan is going to work. My Jubilee practice low-D arrived today. I can only play 1 tune before needing to stop and catch my breath. A low D is like an aerobic exercise by itself.

By the time I get done experimenting with this one, I’ll be a lot closer to getting the Sindt. Whoa has nothing to do with ordering whistles so that they arrive monthly. Honestly, it’s just a way to deal with impatience.

Boy, are you gonna LOVE that flute!!!
Hammy kept pretty darn close to his estimated completion time, too!

Let us know how you love it when it gets here!

(Sorry about hi-jacking the thread… )
