I had the unpleasant experience of coming home from work last night to find that I had been the victim of a home burglary.
Most of the stolen items were tv, laptops, cameras. high tech electrical goods. My set of scottish pipes were also on the list, but amazingly my full set of uilleann pipes were untouched and here is the reason:
I keep my upipes in a banjo case. Surprisingly, they fit perfectly. I removed the little section from the middle of the case where the strings and pics go and the drones/regs fit in the banjo neck section snugly while the bellows go where the banjo body are. Spare room for tuners, reed stuff, etc.
Moral of the story - no one wants to steal a banjo.
You are probably wondering why I have internet access since all my pc’s were knocked off. I am around at my parents. They are the caretakers of my dog that was killed this morning by a car when my dad was walking her. I need to dig the hole to bury her since he is still recovering from an operation he had recently.
Fingers crossed that is the end of it, but as my old man always says - no matter how bad things are, they can always get worse.

Wow, really sorry to hear about your troubles! It’s a damn shame someone would steal your stuff, but to take a person’s musical instrument(s) is down right cruel…
Out of curiosity, were your Scottish pipes in a case, or were they on display? I have a friend of mine who tends to hang his pipes above the fireplace mantle, which hopefully after reading this sad tale, will stop doing it!
I agree with that. NO ONE wants to steal a banjo. Our fiddle player had all of his insturments stolen out of his car right after a gig. Low and behold the banjo was at the end of the parking lot. All the other instruments are gone.
Paddy Keenan was playing a gig in Montreal in June 2006. The afternoon before the gig, he left his pipes and toolbox (for making reeds) in his friend’s car which was parked in the Old Port. Someone smashed the window and made off with his toolbox but didn’t touch the pipes (thankfully).
By the way, sorry to hear your place was broken into and your dog died. What a day!!
