Hello everyone!
Hoover whistles are known for how quiet they are, but seeing as I’ve never seen or heard one in person, I would love some of your input on how quiet they really are. If possible, I would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on how quiet Mack’s whistles are in comparison to a Killarney or a Mk 1 Feadog. I have both of these whistles, and they are both by far the easiest blowers, though the Killarney is louder to my ears. The bell note is also something I’m interested in seeing as it will be the hardest to control. A really nice, quiet, and sweet whistle would be a fantastic addition to the lineup.
Cheers!
Welcome, Mike. While Mack has a reputation for quiet whistles, these quiet whistles are simply one type of many that Mack will make for his customers. His quiet whistles are truly very, very quiet, but with that quiet comes the responsibility of the player to have the breath control to successfully play said whistle.
I have never heard a Mk 1 Feadog, but certainly have heard a Killarney or two. Again, ensure that we are comparing apples with apples. There are Hoover whistles that are as loud or louder than both… If you compare Mack’s quiet whistle with either of the above, there is a noticeable difference.
My suggestion is that you send Mack an email. He is a stand up guy and a good friend.
Good luck in your purchase.

Yes, very quiet indeed and throughout its range, the narrow bore. YMMV, but I think it would indeed be a nice addition to your collection!
Agreed, maybe too quiet. I usually play my White Heads instead.
