Quiet whistle comparisons (Alba, Silkstone, Hoover)

I’ve been looking into purchasing a “quiet” whistle (I’m new to whistling, and I’m trying to find something I can play in my apt without bothering the neighbors). I recently posted a general question about this, but now, after doing a little more research, I have some questions about specific whistles. (Unfortunately, I don’t know of a local place that has a decent selection of whistles, so I’m relying on Internet info and the experience and knowledge of others to guide me…)

My questions are about the following four whistles. It seems, from my research, that all of these would be fairly quiet whistles.

-Hoover Narrow-bore soprano D
-Alba Q1 soprano D
-Silkstone GoldRing soprano D
-Silkstone Narrow-bore Alloy soprano D

  1. How would you rank these four whistles in order from quietest to loudest?
  2. Which of these four would work best for a beginner?
  3. Would you recommend one over the other three and why?

Any answers/comments you feel would be helpful are greatly appreciated.

Hoover is probably the quietest. Two things to keep in mind:

  1. Even a quiet whistle cuts through real good, especially in the high notes. For real stealth you may want to consider a quiet low whistle.
  2. Playing a quiet whistle is harder than playing a normal whistle. You have to learn to supply very little air to it.
  3. Take it from a long time player: you'll be surprised, people don't mind it so much.
