Hoolie.......

Hello all. I realize this will be a very small audience to this announcement, but the very first major, repeating hoolie (jam session) is being formed in Springfield, MO.

I worked a long time getting us a place to play (Churchill’s Coffee house downtown) and getting some musicians to committ.

Anyone out there that is from the Springfield, MO area, or knows someone who is, please pass this info along.

Contact info for the hoolie is hoolie-gans@mcwhistles.com

Thanks, and take care all.

John

Oh yeah… this is a for fun thing only. Nobody is getting paid for appearance or anything like that. It’s just a friendly jam session. Anyone who likes to play is of course welcome!

Bump (for Missourians, Oklahomans, Kansans, and Arkansans not too far from Hwy 71 in MO)

Wish I could go!

Wish I could make it, but the commute, and all that…

Seriously, though, I’ve never heard of a hoolie before. Is that the same as a session? Is the name derived from the Gaelic?

N, ??

So John, when will these get-togethers be held? What kind of music – just Irish or will other types of traditional music also be played?

(As you know I travel to Springfield pretty often, but usually on weekends.)

ok, hooliegans, nice. You should draw some interesting people with metal instruments, sorry, and wood too.

A hoolie is an Irish music and jam session, although I am stretching this to include scottish, welsh, folk, mountain, etc. It’s a “yell it out” and everyone starts playing type of thing.

So far, I have gotten together Whistle (of course.. me included) Dulcimer, fiddle, bohdran, Irish flute, guitar, and mandolin. I am looking for ANYONE who plays ANY acoustic instrument that could be applied.

The owner of Churchill’s is even joining us with his guitar as part of the agreement!!

Like I said… it’s open session. Anyone is welcome, even if someone in the audience decides to join in. I need singers for any tunes people might come up with that it would be applicable.

I’m very excited about it, and it has been long coming in this area that’s for cetain.

I used to go to ‘rac and sac’ in Arkansa, but I’m tired of driving 4-5 hours and wasting all that gas!!!

Take care all,
John

Oh yeah, as far as when it will be, I am shooting for the 2nd Monday of every month. HOWEVER, the owner has graciously offerd us either Sunday, Monday or Wed. night, so I am trying to see what the general consensus is. Seems that so far people are agreeing with Monday.

I am considering Sunday… not sure what everyone will think of it, but I am trying to figure out the best day. As in you Jay!!!

thanks for the kind words…that is a clark whistle. i like the sound i get out of it, but i got to stay in the mic so i can hear it.

thanks again

HEY!!! We just got Dave Cohn on small pipes!!! thanx guys!!!

For those of you who may not know, small pipes are a version of Highland pipes that are quiet enough to stull be heard, but not overpower everyone else in the session. (not to mention run off any listeners!) Pipes are awesome, but a bit too loud for close quarters!!

Thanx again!!!

John
