I am curious, what are some ‘Holiday Tunes’ that pipers on this board are fond of playing? Please share your thoughts, dots and ABCs if you would.
I like playing “The Piper through the Meadow Straying” which is similar to Deck the Halls really. I got that one off Bells of Dublin. See also: http://www.norbeck.nu/abc/i/hnset0.abc
I think a lot of Christmas tunes sound really good done up as reels and jigs and I always enjoy playing them this time of year.
Also, Christmas tunes lend just as well to slow airs and marches. I was just listening to Jerry O’Sullivan playing “He is Born” (Il est ne le Devine Enfant) on the “A Celtic Celebration” CD. Love it!

“Forget the holidays, remember Christmas.”
I like Piper in the Medow , Straying cuz I can play it ![]()
When playing polkas this time of the year Jungle bells.
The piper in the meadow straying hornpipe which sound a bit like Ding dong merely on high.
A tune I am playing a lot at the moment is the possibly seasonal “Kissing and Drinking”.
As heard from Mick O’Brien on the Late Session downloads. The notes (very close to what Mick plays) are in the “Tunes of the Munster Pipers” book, page 18.

“The Wexford Carol” sounds nice on the pipes. It’s got some nice accidentals in it just to keep things interesting.
I like playing “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “We Three Kings”. Easy but fun tunes to play. I also like playing “The First Noel”, “What Child Is This” and “O Come All Ye Faithful”.

Carol of the Bells would be nice if you worked out the key so that you could use the regs for the bass part.

That would be most excellent. I like the classic carols, although Bach’s ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring’ would be a neat one to pull off.
With plenty of drums, right?
I often play the “Christmas reel” at this time of the year.
By the way, do you think I have to rename it the “Holidays reel” if I want to play it in the USA? ![]()
We’re starting to say “Merry Christma-quanz-nukah”…just so we don’t leave anyone out.

“Yule” be insulting the pagans/Wickans if you don’t acknowledge the solstice in there, as well.

Naw, not really. We still appreciate a little annonymity. ![]()
At our house we celebrate:
Ramada-kwanz-uka-solst-mas.
Everyone is covered ![]()

“Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming” also sounds particularly nice.
Peace!

I pulled out the hymnal last night and played
The First Noel
We Three Kings
Go Tell It on the Mountain
Joy to the World
Silent Night
O Come, All Ye Faithful
Just to make it seem a bit more like Christmas.

I heart “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring”! Good jig, ja!
Cheers and Happy Holidays,
