I’m thinking nothing pre-made, and little if anything to be stored. Nothing that uses electricity. Something done as a group project with friends and family.
Halloween use to be great for that, there was much fewer prefab, cookie cutter, blow up lit lawn ornaments. People made quirky haunted houses and often their own costumes. Now you look through a store on Oct 17, it looks like Christmas in black and orange. Dad goes out, staples up the blinking lights, and sets up the lawn ornaments, and ta da! Instant Halloween.
On Halloween we always had nice headstones by the front door for our neighbor’s former kitties. They thought it was humorous so we went along with it.
I like Christmas lights because they brighten up a dull, dark, cold, dreary time of year. If I lived where December was warm and sunny I wouldn’t fool with the lights as much.
