Totally OT, but what the heck...'tis the season!

Since this is the first Sunday in Advent, as well as the third night of Chanukah (and because I just finished helping string a zillion strands of lights), I figured I’d ask…do you decorate your home for the Holidays (whichever you celebrate at this time of year), and if so, in what manner?

We’re one of the few homes in our area with outside decorations, but that’s not entirely surprising, since many of the houses here are actually summer cabins. My favorite outside “ornament” is our lighted Nativity Scene, which I plan to add to year after year, maybe incorporating some wildlife figures, as we live in a forest.

The house looks so pretty…I think now I need to go out on the deck and play some Christmas Carols!

When we lived in the Philippines, I enjoyed all the foil and paper Christmas decorations. And the Christmas star lanterns, which they make from bamboo and cellophane, and put Christmas lights inside of.

We’ve retained a couple of traditions from when we lived in North Carolina. One tradition is to put candles in all the windows. Our house is an A-frame, so it really only has one large window that faces the street, but the top part of that window is divided into 4 quadrants, and we put candles in each pane.

The other is the Moravian Star of Bethlehem, which we hang from the ridge pole. It hovers over the Nativity Scene quite nicely.

I love hubby but he is an Atheist and can’t understand why I want to decorate the house. Still I bought a 7 foot tree this year adn he helped me get it upright. Trouble is that I hadn’t realised it would be so wide:-)

I shall whistle from the Underworld with Yuki my ferret and all the other rescued animals we’ve had.

No home decorations for The Nut, but I do decorate my webpage :stuck_out_tongue: It’s the closest thing to a permanent placement I’ve got! Actually I should take care of that this week. Thanks for the reminder!

We just use a wreath on the front door, some single candles (with small clear bulbs) in the windows and being in the “Moravian capitol of the South”, a Moravian star over the front door. Which reminds me, the star finally fell apart last year…I gotta get another one.

Cheers,

Paulsdad

I hope mine doesn’t fall apart anytime soon…it would be hard to replace here in California!

We used to go to the Holiday bazaar at the Moravian Church near our home in Durham every year, where I would stock up on sugar cake and, when necessary, buy a replacement star. So far, this one is hanging in (we don’t usually get the high winds here).

I also got another of our favorite traditions there…the Good Deeds Manger.

So, you must live near Winston-Salem, eh?

I used to hang a Moravian star over the front door, but it finally fell apart, and I’ve never replaced it.

Moravian sugar cake, yummmmmy!

Yummmy indeed…I’ve got a craving for sugar cake now, and no way to fill it.

Don’t suppose anyone has a recipe?
