A lot depends on the whistle; but let’s see…
Here–my Alba Low D does bring a kind of high F= by xxx xox , could makeshift for passing notes, but sharp.
Now, same fingering together with half-covering the end of the pipe (on the thigh, Hooligan pipers style and no, you don’t need to undress) gets right on spot, but it’s a bit muffled so it needs some extra push for volume.
On a high whistle, you can try this, but using your right pinky to cap (half-cover) the end of the whistle.
Sometimes, I wonder if I shouldn’t make some kind of gadget to make this trick a little easier…
Btw, weren’t some old Dolmetsch re***ers equipped with such an end-flap?
I know, the poor things are already pig-nosed, all this uncharitable schoolyard is already teasing them for this affliction, and now I want them to wear toilet seat covers instead of cap… ![]()
